***1/28/10 – Only a few spots left! One on Friday and four on Saturday!

———————————————————————

This has been a rough week.

Like everyone, I’ve been watching – and then turning away because it’s just so awful – the devastation in Haiti in the wake of the terrible earthquake last week.

Then there was another aftershock today, almost as strong as the original earthquake.

Like all of you, I’ve been aching to do something.

If I were still teaching my choirs in Utah, we would have had a concert to help. That’s what we do at American Fork Junior High. (Go Cavemen!) But without the ability to mobilize all those kids and do something to help, I’ve been stumped. Donating money made me feel like I was doing something, but I wanted to do more.

Then today, the idea finally came.

To help raise funds for the efforts in Haiti, I will be holding mini-portrait sessions at Summit Montessori School, and your entire session fee will go to help the rescue and rebuilding efforts in Haiti.

For your $100 donation, you will receive:

• 30 minute photo session
• Online proofing gallery to review proofs from session
• Four (4) Gift Prints (Gift Prints are any prints 8×10 or smaller)
• 25% off any additional prints and products from your session, including Valentine’s Day cards (see example card just below)
* I will personally donate any profits from additional print and product sales.

Here’s how it will work:

1. Bring a $100 check to your photo session made out to Partners In Health or to the American Red Cross.  If you’d like to make an online donation to Partners in Health or the American Red Cross, that works too.  Just print out your receipt showing that you made an online donation between January 21 (today) and your session date and bring the receipt to your photo session in lieu of a check.

2. Have a fabulous time with me at your photo session. All photos will be edited and can be delivered in time for Valentine’s Day.  Photos make a great gift for husbands, wives, grandparents, aunts, uncles…

3. You will receive a link to your proofing gallery via e-mail within a week of your mini-session. Let me know which prints you would like for your four gift prints and they will be ordered and shipped to you.

4. Feel great knowing you helped people that are in dire need.  And at this time of year when we celebrate love, what is more wonderful than that?

Questions:

How do I sign up?

The available session times are listed at the bottom of this post. Leave me a note in the comments with the time you would like, or send me an e-mail letting me know your preferred time and I’ll put you on the schedule.  I will then e-mail you directions to Summit Montessori School, where the sessions will take place.

Why is my donation going to Partners In Health or to the American Red Cross?

I chose charities that are well-established, reputable organizations that are already on the ground working in Haiti.

Partners In Health is a Boston based organization started by Dr. Paul Farmer. The organization has helped build Haitian-run hospitals in Haiti for over 20 years and they are working hard not only to help fix the health problems that exist, but to help rebuild the country.  Find out more about Partners In Health by clicking here.

The American Red Cross seems to be one of the first organizations on the scene in situations like this, and they always need help and support. Find out more about the American Red Cross by clicking here.

Can my donation go to another Haitian relief organization?

Sure. I’d love to hear about who you would like to donate to and why it’s an important organization to you. Send me an e-mail and we’ll figure out the details.

What will I use this photo shoot for?

For fun! You can have fun and help people at the same time!

• Dress up and get a fabulous headshots taken, then frame one as a gift for your spouse’s office.

• Bring the kids in those cute Valentine’s Day shirts they only wear for a couple weeks and get some fun photos taken.

• Have your family portraits taken.

The sky’s the limit.

Other questions?

Please feel free to leave a comment or send me an e-mail.

I can’t wait to hear from you, and I’d love it if you would help spread the word on Facebook and Twitter.

And an extra special thanks to Summit Montessori School for their willingness to open their doors and provide such a wonderful space for the photo shoots to occur. It’s an honor to be part of such a wonderful community.

I am interested in signing up for the 1:30 slot on Jan 30th to have pictures made to benefit Haiti. I am 7 months pregnant and was wondering if the pictures had to be valentine’s themed or if my husband and I could do some maternity shots? Please let me know your thoughts. Hope to get to work with you.

Hey Macy! What a wonderful idea – and so generous an offer. We won’t be able to do this right now, but you did inspire me to donate to a charity, so thanks for the motivation to do so. I’ll forward this on to friends in the area. You are so talented!
