I love this family. They moved to Austin from California almost two years ago, and we are so grateful to have them as part of our lives. The oldest two kids are my kids favorite babysitters, and the mom is the talented lady who created Little L and G-Man's birthday cakes last year. The dad works with Diggity at church, and I get to work with the two youngest in my calling at church. They're just fantastic. I was so excited to spend the morning with them capturing these images.
We did this shoot on South 1st Street in South Austin. I've shot there before (this session and this one), but never in the morning. The light was terrible at the spots where I've done photos previously, so it was a great exercise in finding the light. And because it was morning and there weren't a lot of people around, I was able to shoot in some spots I'd never tried or even noticed before.
The Severson kids are fantastic. They were so easy to work with, so photogenic and so fun.
But my favorite part about photographing these kids? Capturing the relationships between the different siblings. I've photographed a lot of families, but I don't have many siblings who beg me to photograph them with each other.
Mom and dad are pretty dang awesome too.
Another favorite from this session? Watching the kids interact with mom when I did the one-on-one pictures I always do. I just had each child talk with their mom and had them tell each other something they love or admire about each other. It was magical to watch and photograph. In fact, when this next picture popped up on my screen for the first time, I actually had tears in my eyes.
I don't know a lot of teenage boys that like their mom this much. I hope mine likes me this much someday.
Thanks, Severson family! It was a joy spending the morning with you!
